New Trends Driving Data Science Adoption And Use Cases
As the economy slows, demand for data products and talent is rising. There are several trends at work that support the assertion that data as an industry will be proven to do better during a downturn than in stronger economic conditions. I have been in C-level strategy meetings for almost 2 weeks straight. I will share some of my main takeaways and what they mean for our industry.
Senior leadership sentiment falls into two categories: worried about uncertainty and confident in their core strategy. The differentiator is the data team’s ability to deliver insights combined with senior leadership’s ability to consume, trust, interpret, and act on those insights.
That differentiator and trend have been in place for three years, but the leaders worried about succeeding through uncertainty are now more aware of the divide between them and their competitors. Those concerned about uncertainty have also realized what the business is missing.
The opportunity for data organizations is to use this moment and build partnerships with senior leaders navigating uncertainty. In the last two weeks, senior leaders have become more open to incorporating data into the strategy planning and implementation processes. Even if you have tried in the recent past and not gotten traction, it’s worth presenting to senior leadership again.
They will need specific use cases to drive the point home. Product and automation use cases are heavily covered, but strategy and decision support are not. What follows is a list of a few use cases I see the confident businesses supporting. Your may differ, but the theme will carry through.
