Which Monday Will I Write This On?
Just over 2 years ago, I started telling clients, “The bullet that ends businesses has already been fired.” You see about 10% of what I write. Clients send questions, and I answer them. I see events that need context, and I send notes to provide background. That’s much of what I’m paid for.
I used to present at meetings and quickly realized that listening to me at full speed is like drinking from a firehose. I try to explain the big picture all at once. I figured it out when a client came up to me after one of these meetings and said, “You teach like you’re running out of time. You almost feel desperate to give us everything. Why?”
I responded, “It’s not me who ran out of time.”
In chess, grandmasters end games several moves from checkmate. The outcome is fait accompli. The deepest understanding of the game results in a causal understanding of defeat. After a tipping point, the outcome is inevitable.
